Long, long day but we made it home a bit after midnight. Pass through customs easily, long wait to board the bus for the Miami airport, long walk through the airport to the Alaska check in, find out that Alaska won't open its desk until 2:00 (4 hours from now!), long wait at the Alaska counter (because I hadn't been able to download boarding passes on their app), sailed through TSA security, long, long walk to the gate! I would love to know how far we walked today! By the way, the easiest part of the day was getting through security! (Remember, TSA has been unpaid for a month now, thanks to gov't shutdown - still not resolved).
Miami has a beautiful skyline, lots of construction of high rise buildings.
The weather at home has been so warm all winter, and early spring while we were gone. We were expecting an overgrown mess when we got home. But, alas, somebody had mowed our lawn (I assume Shawn). And, very surprisingly, our front yard plum tree is in bloom!
Final thoughts:
- We love Holland America Line! This was our 7th over the last ten years. Beautiful ships, great crews, excellent food, great itineraries.
- The excursions are always well planned and informative. There are lots of alternatives; we tend to stick with the "easy" ones!
- Entertainment is almost always excellent!
- Holland ships are considerd mid-size - 1800 to 2200 passengers.
- Passenger mix is generally "senior" 50+. Very few children, or even "young people" on board. People from all over the world! Seems not very many "first timers".
- The "Shops" are interesting - lots of upscale stuff (Rolex). Who buys this stuff? Photographers all over, but not "pushy".
